About Toro Dairy

Registered under the cooperatives act of 1963 Reg. No. 2211 dated 1966

Brief Background

Registered under the cooperatives act of 1963 Reg. No. 2211 dated 1966, Toro Dairy Cooperative Society Limited is a membership-based, member-used and member-controlled organization owned by individual shareholders who are primarily dairy farmers in the Rwenzori region.

We have 600+ registered members across Kabarole, Fort Portal, and Bunyangabu, with about 50% being active due to logistical constraints. The Dairy operates from our own permanent building located at Rukiidi III Street, Fort Portal City.

On average, we handle about 5,000 litres of fresh milk daily, with the potential to sell 20,000 litres per day. Our products reach consumers in Bundibugyo, Kasese, Kyenjojo and neighboring districts.

Our Cooperative

Toro Dairy Cooperative Society Limited is a member-owned, member-used, and member-controlled organization rooted in the Tooro region of Uganda. Established in 1966, it has grown from a small group of visionary farmers in Fort Portal into a vibrant cooperative of over 600 members and a wider network of 3,000 dairy farmers across Tooro. Inspired by pioneers such as the late Rt. Hon. George B. Babiiha, Uganda's first African Minister of Animal Industry, Toro Dairy has for more than five decades stood as a true symbol of resilience, dignity, and farmer-led development.

Operating from our permanent headquarters on Rukiidi III Street, Fort Portal City, we currently handle an average of 5,000 liters of fresh milk daily, with capacity to scale to 20,000 liters. To diversify revenue streams, we process 2,000 liters of yogurt weekly and are expanding into UHT milk. Our strength lies in forging strong partnerships with government, development actors, and donors—keeping our doors open to collaboration for a sustainable dairy future.
